The Foundation’s Mission & Vision

Mission

The Santani Foundation is dedicated to creating a sustainable and inclusive future in Sri Lanka by focusing on three core pillars: the conservation and revival of heritage and culture, environmental conservation, and promoting gender equity in tourism and hospitality. Our mission is to empower communities, preserve the natural and cultural heritage of Sri Lanka, and ensure equal opportunities for all individuals, particularly in the tourism and hospitality sectors.
Vision

Our vision is a thriving Sri Lanka where cultural heritage is cherished, the environment is protected, and every individual, regardless of gender, has the opportunity to thrive in a fair and inclusive tourism and hospitality industry. We aim to be a leading force in driving sustainable development, fostering cultural pride, and promoting environmental stewardship, thereby creating a legacy of empowerment and sustainability for future generations.

Our Story

Founded on the belief that heritage and culture are at the heart of our collective identity, the Santani Foundation was established by the Santani Group to preserve the rich traditions and values that make Sri Lanka unique. Rooted in the ethos of Santani Wellness, our foundation extends its commitment to sustainability into the realms of cultural preservation, artistic revival, and community empowerment.

Through meaningful collaborations and innovative projects, we aim to bridge the gap between past and present, ensuring that the wisdom of our ancestors is celebrated while adapting to modern needs. By fostering partnerships with artisans, scholars, and cultural custodians, the Santani Foundation strives to create lasting change for generations to come.

Conservation & Revival of Heritage and Culture

At the Santani Foundation, we believe that cultural heritage is a living legacy that enriches communities and connects us to our roots. Our conservation and revival efforts focus on:

  • Traditional Arts and Crafts: Supporting artisans and craftspeople to keep age-old skills alive while creating economic opportunities
  • Rituals and Performing Arts: Reviving traditional music, dance, and rituals, ensuring they remain integral to community identity.
  • Heritage Preservation: Restoring historic sites and cultural landmarks to retain their significance and inspire future generations.
By working with local communities, scholars, and cultural institutions, we create programs that not only preserve traditions but also make them relevant in today’s context.

Samula Heritage Festival

The Samula Heritage Festival is the Santani Foundation’s flagship project, a celebration of Sri Lanka’s vibrant cultural tapestry. Held annually, the festival brings together artisans, performers, and heritage custodians from across the country to showcase their traditions through immersive experiences, workshops, and performances.

Key Highlights of Samula:
  • Rituals and Dances: Showcasing ancient healing and ceremonial dances, such as the Kohomba Kankariya, Ves, and Udekki Thowil rituals.
  • Craftsmanship Exhibits: Featuring traditional artisans and their creations, emphasizing the importance of handmade, sustainable crafts.
  • Community Impact: Empowering local artists and craftspeople by providing a platform for their work, fostering economic growth, and raising awareness about cultural preservation.
The Samula Heritage Festival is a testament to the foundation’s commitment to preserving Sri Lanka’s living heritage while creating meaningful connections between the past, present, and future.
